took a break from blogging. in fact - i took a break from everything, including work. i quit at the end of august. i was in a corner, stuck in a place where i could not grow professionally. i am doing some freelance work at the moment, or - trying to, and am in the process of re-creating my website. i'm taking down the outdated flash site - its time to create a new identity for myself.

Now a days its really easy to stay connected. People from different cultures, countries and continents have an ability to stay in touch and learn from each other. Our world view widens each day and with that, we become more aware of our surroundings. Lately blogging became more and more available, attractive to people, I will even use the word popular to describe it. Through this we are able to read views of regular people, not censored information presented to us on the news.

This is an example of a young man writing about his ideas, thoughts and beliefs. He exposes his own culture to us, and makes us aware of things that we didn't even think about. For an example, he has a blog entry about Hostel Life. I never even considered the fact that you can live in a hostel while in persuing higher education, but hostel life i found was an interesting way to live (although mostly uncomfortable).

Keep writing, this blog is very interesting to read!

nothing really changed

Stuff in the office stinks! Not literally, of coarse, but nonetheless – it leaves an unpleasant taste in your mouth. The double standards escalade daily, favoritism is now a common practice. Although the naïve ones don’t see it (one kid), everyone else that falls under middle management (makes up most of the company) definitely noticed a change, especially with my boss. There is nothing pleasant about coming in to work in the mornings. I feel like it’s a drag, a waste of my time. My puppy is growing up in the bathroom without me being there to enjoy it.

The insecure passive aggressive boss in not allowing anyone to grow in the company. I don’t see my future here, I don’t see myself succeeding, getting a promotion, a nicer sounding title. Should’ve stayed on unemployment when I had the chance. But I’m putting that behind me and facing the fact that that golden opportunity is gone. Summer almost down the drain. I feel like I wasted it.

Moving on – I need to either come to peace with my problem, or eliminate it. I haven’t decided which path to take yet, but leaning towards the second one. We only live once, right?

It's funny how we have learned to be completely dependant on many things in our every day life. for example - internet. a lot of homes have this being that always lures you in with false promises of free porn and quick money. once you are removed from the fast-paste environment, you still have those cravings. once i have a chance, i'll check my email, even though i don't expect to actually receive a letter that matters. i am, however surprised if i receive one. all i think of is 'YAY'

other then that, many comforts are missing - the availability of a free, clean toilet. the knowledge that you won't be bothered or hit on on the street (every 5-10 min). the friendliness of people.

some things remain: stupidity of people, bitches, friends.

so far, i've been having a good time. haven't made it out to the center of the city yet, except to watch the game. so far i've been hanging around with my good friend and her boyfriend. good people.

last day before vacation...

i'm ready to leave. i have about 4 hours left (plus lunch break), and i'm so done with this place... i was done with it at the beginning of the second time i started working here, which is pretty freakin sad.

so now there are a few good things to look forward to. leaving for russia, chilling for three weeks and hopefully getting paid. then coming back to work, hopefully for no more then 1 month. during that time, i really don't know how i'm going to send my letter two weeks after i took a long ass vacation. i feel bad for doing something like that, but on the other hand they wouldn't think twice before screwing me over.

i should not let that bother me, but somewhere in the back of my mind, i feel bad.

change of scenery - positive result

i've been forced to sit at another desk for the last week. its an actual cube with no cube mates, i get my privacy, and its a lot more private then the old desk, even though its high traffic. first of all, boss's faithful eyes are not behind me all the time, so i'm not affraid to go online to check my emails or the latest hot deals from Deals Plus . or write in my blog.

the truth is - given all this freedom, i've been cranking out projects one by one. within a week i got 4 projects done (and this is a short week, only 4 days). got two more started. its quite nice. i feel more productive, even though i still dislike what i do. i'm happier within my own 3 partial walls.

here's the crappy part. the boss keeps wondering when my computer will be fixed. she wants me back on her radar. and i don't want to go! whats the big idea - i'm getting a lot more shit done here then back there. hell - i can't even keep the lights on when i want. WTF!

receiving catalogs have never been a big deal to me, in fact - every time i got one in the mail, i opened it up and looked through it carefully, not to purchase anything, but to look at the design and layout of product and type. this time, i was more annoyed then i've ever been with catalogs. i got a Victoria's Secret at work. i guess once you order a bikini and have it sent to your job, you are marked for life (it was a nice little sale and living in a condo, i didn't want my package to be left at the front door of a city. at the time i didn't think of having it sent to my parents house.)

i remembered coming across an article on a certain site that allows you to opt-out of catalogs relatively quickly. the site is called Catalog Choice , the only thing you have to do is sign up for a membership, but even that doesn't clutter your mail box or inbox. i am not sure how long it takes for the cycle of junk mail to stop, but hopefully i will not receive another half naked lady delivered to my desk.

This is discouraging. Like i said in the last post, i was not able to write for the last week because whenever i tried publishing anything - i would receive an error code. At first i thought it would go away. Yesterday i was so annoyed with the inability to spill my guts to the world, that i decided to get help. The help link was no help at all, i tried looking for my problem, but the list was minimal and didn't extend very far beyond saying that i have a problem. I tried tech support, but that didn't work either - according to another blog about help with blogger.com - there was suppose to be some form to fill out. I found no forms, but did come across a message board. Again, posting a message on the message board proved to be pointless. My question remained unanswered. By luck i tried to post something up, and it finally worked. It is possible that someone saw the message and fixed the problem without telling me, or maybe the bug resolved itself.

drama. yay.

today's meeting revealed yet another way to make my life here difficult. no more im's, no more leaving early, no more getting in late, no more long vacations, no more other things... although i understand how that could be a problem, and the points that have been made are completely realistic and should not be problems in the work place, but it will be difficult to abide by the new rules. The boss is not getting respect, mainly because the boss does not abide by the rules, but expects everyone else to do so. every day its getting harder for me to come in, more discouraging. I love rules and boundaries, i think its important to have that in the work place. I don't think im'ing is appropriate in the work place and leaving early and coming in late is only acceptable if it was permitted. But when the person who you should look up to comes in late every day, who will be there to make sure you're at work on time? and if the boss leaves early who will be there to say - wait,... you're leaving early!

the point is - i get my job done, and i do it in a timely fashion. In fact - i do it faster then anyone else in my department.

The stupidity of enamel paints

part of my job is to paint nesting dolls. it occupies an overall 1/5 of my time spent at my job, which already gets on my nerves. I'm a graphic designer, not painter (although can be). I want a lot of experience, different kind ;). painting nesting dolls - doesn't really add anything except for product development, but even then whatever i submit tends to be redone for me without me knowing. and i don't care that much to ask questions. its not my calling.

when i started working here it was all new and exciting, but two months into the job i saw the cycle. the cycle itself is not a bad thing, its reliable, predictable. you know when you can take time off and when you need to stay at work a little bit longer. you can plan accordingly, which is nice. Also - the people are nice (for the most part, of coarse). Some minor office politics, nothing huge.
A lot of other problems though, my boss is unrealistically idealistic. I guess i can't complain about that though, most people have to deal with bosses from hell who curse at you all day long (had one of those too).

Either way - blogging is a way for me to keep sane during my daily boring work-tasks, like painting nesting dolls.

working relationships

This is about work... and people who you work with. not relationships that work.

I am 90% convinced that working with female bosses is not productive, stressful, and often more of a competition. I am 24. My potential boss lady would be at least 10 years older. There is such a huge difference when it comes to culture and the way people are or were raised. back 10 years ago, 24 year olds didn't really see women in power. they could only base their opinions how women in power should act based on how men in power acted. And 10 years ago, 24 year olds began to realize that men sucked (for the most part), and the men who got into power were jerks who could sneak their way to the top (and often abused those 24 year olds).

Well times have changed. Those naive 24 year olds are now 34, and most likely occupy a higher position then they did 10 years ago. They are the shit now, they can order people around and do things that others have no authorization to do. But they don't know what kind of mistakes they are making, because - face it - most people can't tell what they are doing or who they are hurting, unless someone makes them look in the mirror. So these 34 y,o. ladies in power take their job a little too seriously, a little too personally. They make it their home, they feel safe and secure there. Once a younger girl comes in, they automatically feel threatened. Their home can be given away to someone else - longer legged 5'10" 130lb beauty with brains. They feel like the other chick doesn't want to commit 100%, not like her (the 34 year old). She feels like the younger generation can't do anything, but in reality the younger generation is prepared to handle those tasks, and aside from experience - has the ability to handle the 34-year-old's job.

So what happens then? 34 year olds do whatever they can to spoil the 24 year old's life. Caddy remarks, comments, talking behind their backs... this brings us back to middle school, where 12 year old girls made friends and enemies and established their role in society.

My message to 34 year olds and older (or some particularly insecure 27 year olds (and up)) - get some freaking confidence! you're there for a reason, and stop spoiling people's lives and work environments. Go to school if you have to - learn a new skill! GET A LIFE that you enjoy, OUTSIDE the office. pick up kickboxing to get rid of your frustractions. Keep work space CLEAN, FREE OF HORMONAL invasion.

p.s. this is not about my case in particular, i'm just generalizing.

I recently discovered a new way of making money … so to speak through writing. Blogging has been around for a while; I remember a local non-profit radio station doing a report on blogging. They described it as a new way to have your opinions heard/read/discovered. Well unless you have an incredibly interesting life, most likely you don’t have that much to talk about. Well Pay Per Post gives you an opportunity to write about something, voice your complete opinion. You get paid to blog.

The way this works – is actually fairly simple. To activate this wonderful money-making machine, you must have a blog. This blog needs to be maintained for a minimum of 30 days and must have at least 10 posts (I believe). You sign up for an account with the website, which takes only a couple of minutes. From then, you need to wait for approval. It takes a couple of days, but once the blog is approved you can start blogging for profit.

The topics of discussion vary. They range from strict product or service reviews (positive, of coarse) to empty words with a few links. Its all good, if anything it’s a good exercise. I can practice writing (which I haven’t done since college) and you – well you can practice reading.

housewarming

finally, this weekend, we had our housewarming party. huge turnout, we got a lot of wine as presents. Thank you all for coming.

there's something about having parties in the spring. i've noticed that having parties or even people over in the winter = people don't come... not really. they're cozy at home, and who wants to step out into the brutal winter of new england. not the 'married couples' i know. disrespectful. its just as warm in my house - u know. the heat is included in the condo fee!!!

it is completely different in the spring, though. people are generally more excited to come out. fingers and toes don't hurt as much. or something.

the same can be said for going out to bars. in January we moved in to my newly purchased condo in waltham, ma. its great location placed us in the middle of waltham downtown. its lively, fun, there's parking. i love it. i hope that everything turns out well with it and we won't see hardships. i noticed a great incline of people going out lately, the weather has been a lot nicer, even at nights. hopefully the summer will be even better then spring.

He foooled me today. he got walked and fed today as i got a chance to sleep in. yay - thanks Alex :). i woke up and he was happy and fun, then he ran to his bowl and looked at it all sad. and looked at me, like he hasn't been fed. so i fell for it, i should've waited for alex's email back to me saying he fed him. deliveries and such

Sadly, i haven't yet had a good experience with deliveries. I was suppose to get a mattress delivered today, the one I exchanged. its 4pm. they haven't delivered it yet. Not only that - but I was suppose to receive a phone call yesterday, confirming delivery. it didn't happen. last time they delivered a mattress, they called when they were at my door 4 hours before they were suppose to be there. I'm confused. Am i going to get my new mattress today?

buying anything these days is a difficult / stressful procedure. retailers try to make it as worry-free as possible. nearly everything can be returned or exchanged. i can understand - every day items - a lamp, an ottoman from your local christmas tree shop. a vacuum. people can buy a car, and then if they don't like it, they have 30 days to return it (or exchange it).

even though it made my life easier, some times should not be returned/exchanged. books: you read parts of it at the store, if you don't like it so far - don't buy it. what would compel someone to bring the book home, open it, start reading it again, then thinking.... i really don't like the way this sounds, i'm going to return it. for all we know, that person read the entire book and decided they needed something else to read. thats why we have libraries, you borrow a book, read it, return it. in fact - libraries make it even better, they pressure you to finish the book in 'n' amount of days.

this brings me to my final thought of the day. there is something wrong with exchanging mattresses. do you know who slept on the mattress you are sleeping on right now? companies can repackage your mattress and sell it again. creepy. i am thankful though for this particular deal because recently i tried out a mattress for about a month - its called kingsdown. really good mattress, soft but supportive. not my style though, too soft for a girl who likes it firm ;). april 1st i'm getting a new one - temperpedic (classic - the firmest one). should be great! hopefully.

i HATE it badly designed things. Particularly Text.

Ii'm not neat freak, but i can't stand it when text is not organized visually.

Lets begin:
To draw attention to something - you don't need to make it HUGE. the text doesn't need to be 48pts MAGENTA with black outlines. Generally people can see and read text of 10 pts. don't make it bigger - looks stupid. unless your audience is 3-7 years old.

Suggestion on editing text: make the biggest change first. in other words - you have a 3 page paper with multiple headlines/sub-headlines, and other things, and u need to change everything - tackle the biggest amount of text first. Deal with little crap later.

Here are a couple of suggestions to make your mediocre work - closer to 'ok'.
• make the body copy of the article / text 8 or 10 point type.
• main headline of the text can be bolded. here you keep it in the same typeface family (typeface family - Gill Sans: Light, regular, italic, bold). Or you can use a different typeface, but make sure that it looks different enough not to blend in. If u stick with the same family, make it bolder or 1 or 2 points bigger (again, make ur eyes be the judge of that). WARNING: don't go bigger then a couple of point over what your text size is. it will look stupid. Also, don't pick silly typefaces.
• sub-headlines pick the same style of the main headline and make the size of it the same as ur regular main body text, you should be golden.

Today -is hopefully the last time I had to go to see Dr L for my wisdom teeth. Thanks a lot, impacted tooth - i got dry socket! Smells nasty, don't even try.

Wisdom tooth extraction

An oral and maxillofacial surgeon or your dentist can remove (extract) a wisdom tooth. The procedure often can be done in the dentist's or surgeon's office. You may have the surgery in the hospital, especially if you are having all your wisdom teeth pulled at one time or if you are at high risk for complications.

If you have any infections, surgery will usually be delayed until the infection has cleared up. Your doctor or dentist may have you take antibiotics to help heal the infection.

Before removing a wisdom tooth, your dentist will give you a local anesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed. A general anesthetic may be used, especially if several or all of your wisdom teeth will be removed at the same time. A general anesthetic prevents pain in the whole body and will make you groggy or cause you to sleep through the procedure. Your dentist will probably recommend that you don't eat or drink after midnight on the night before surgery, so you are prepared for the anesthetic.

To remove the wisdom tooth, your dentist will open up the gum tissue over the tooth and take out any bone that is covering the tooth. He or she will separate the tissue connecting the tooth to the bone and then remove the tooth. Sometimes the dentist will cut the tooth into smaller pieces to make it easier to remove.

After the tooth is removed, you may need stitches. Some stitches dissolve over time and some have to be removed after a few days. Your dentist will tell you whether your stitches need to be removed. A folded cotton gauze pad placed over the wound will help stop the bleeding.

What To Expect After Surgery

In most cases, the recovery period lasts only a few days. Take painkillers as prescribed by your dentist or oral surgeon. The following tips will help speed your recovery.

Bite gently on the gauze pad periodically, and change pads as they become soaked with blood. Call your dentist or oral surgeon if you still have bleeding 24 hours after your surgery.
While your mouth is numb, be careful not to bite the inside of your cheek or lip, or your tongue.
Do not lie flat. This may prolong bleeding. Prop up your head with pillows.
Try using an ice pack on the outside of your cheek for the first 24 hours. You can use moist heat-such as a washcloth soaked in warm water and wrung out-for the following 2 or 3 days.
Relax after surgery. Physical activity may increase bleeding.
Eat soft foods, such as gelatin, pudding, or a thin soup. Gradually add solid foods to your diet as healing progresses.
Do not use a straw for the first few days. Sucking on a straw can loosen the blood clot and delay healing.
After the first day, gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times a day to reduce swelling and relieve pain.
Do not smoke for at least 24 hours after your surgery. The sucking motion can loosen the clot and delay healing. In addition, smoking decreases the blood supply and can bring germs and contaminants to the surgery area.
Avoid rubbing the area with your tongue or touching it with your fingers.
Continue to brush your teeth and tongue carefully.

Your dentist will remove the stitches after a few days, if needed.

Why It Is Done

A wisdom tooth is extracted to correct an actual problem or to prevent problems that may come up in the future. When wisdom teeth come in, a number of problems can occur:

Your jaw may not be large enough for them, and they may become impacted and unable to break through your gums.
Your wisdom teeth may break partway through your gums, causing a flap of gum tissue to grow over them. Food and germs can get trapped under the flap and cause your gums to become red, swollen, and painful. These are signs of infection.
More serious problems can develop from impacted teeth, such as infection, damage to other teeth and bone, or a cyst.
One or more of your wisdom teeth may come in at an awkward angle, with the top of the tooth facing forward, backward, or to either side.

How Well It Works

Wisdom tooth removal usually is effective in preventing:

Crowding of the back teeth.
A wisdom tooth becoming stuck in the jaw (impacted) and never breaking through the gums.
Red, swollen, and painful gums caused by a flap of skin around a wisdom tooth that has only partially come in.
Gum disease and tooth decay in the wisdom tooth, which may be harder to clean than other teeth, or in the teeth and jaw in the area of the wisdom tooth.

Risks

After a wisdom tooth is removed, you may experience:

Pain and swelling in your gums and tooth socket where the tooth was removed.
Bleeding that won't stop for about 24 hours.
Difficulty with or pain from opening your jaw (trismus).
Slow-healing gums.
Damage to existing dental work, such as crowns or bridges, or to roots of a nearby tooth.
A painful inflammation called dry socket, which happens if the protective blood clot is lost too soon.
Numbness in your mouth and lips after the local anesthetic wears off, due to injury or inflammation of nerves in the jaw.
Rare side effects, including:
- Numbness in the mouth or lips that does not go away.¹
- A fractured jaw if the tooth was firmly attached to the jaw bone.
- An opening into the sinus cavity when a wisdom tooth is removed from the upper jaw.

Dental surgery may cause bacteria in the mouth to enter the bloodstream and cause infections in other parts of the body. People who have difficulty fighting off infections may need to take antibiotics before and after dental surgery. Such people include those who have artificial heart valves or were born with heart defects.

Anesthetic (local and/or general) almost always is used during the extraction procedure. All surgeries, including oral surgery, that use general anesthetic have a small risk of death or other complications.

What To Think About

If your wisdom teeth are not causing problems, it may be difficult to decide whether to have your wisdom teeth removed to prevent possible dental problems later in life. Consider the following:

You may never have any problems with your wisdom teeth.
It is rarely harmful to your health to have your wisdom teeth removed, but there are slight risks involved with any surgery.
In younger people (late teens and early 20s), the wisdom tooth's roots are not fully developed and the jaw bone is not as dense, so it is easier to remove the tooth. The easier it is to remove the tooth, the easier your recovery is likely to be.
Most problems with wisdom teeth develop between the ages of 15 and 25.
If you are older than age 30, you have only a small risk of having problems with your wisdom teeth. Few people older than 30 develop problems that require removal of their wisdom teeth.
Medical insurance does not always cover this procedure.
If you have a medical condition that may get worse over time and your teeth may cause problems, consider having your wisdom teeth removed while you are healthy.
Possible complications include dry socket (alveolar osteitis), infection, bleeding, and numbness, but the overall chance of complications is less than 2% (2 in 100 people). The risk is slightly higher if you have wisdom teeth removed from the lower jaw than from the upper jaw.²

Women who decide to have their wisdom teeth removed should try to schedule the surgery for the end of their menstrual cycle (usually days 23 through 28). There seems to be less risk of dry socket during this time.³

Everyone is so obsessed with creating a green/people-nature friendly spots for people to relax in all over major cities and parks/forests in the suburbs, particularly in Boston area. However, we are not considering the ones who actually need the little patch of grass to run around on, just like most need their car to get to wall-mart or a local mega store. Build more dog friendly areas people! Let them run around off-leash. They need to get their energy out like we do, and the next thing you know - you'll have a happy exhausted puppy, happily sleeping next to your couch, not trying to destroy it.

for 7 days a lot of shit happened.
Friday: layed off. Didn't get paid
Saturday: picked up my crap and L's stuff.
Sunday: party. Ate at Chez Henri. Drank w/ L and G in Somerville after the race. Sammy's last meal before the big day.
Monday: Sammy's surgery. poor puppy. My last meal at Burton's Grill before wisdom teeth part with my jaws.
Tuesday: BIG DAY. Valium. Conscious sedation dentistry. Vicodin. Sammy and I sleeping on the couch for the rest of the day.
Wednesday: TV all day, Mommy taking care of me. FEELS GOOD. can't eat solid foods. Sucks.
Thursday: L made soup. SOOOO good. Sammy feels better. I feel the same. Found two huge bruises under my jaw. EW.
Friday: Wish I could stay home and get payed. Looking for a job. Found a couple of nice choices. America's next top model from 10AM. its 12 now. Taking sammy to the park.

A little about me,

I am - a face of perfection. on some days. on others - a self conscious being. Take my work, for example. Being a graphic designer I need to be good, or at least half way decent to get work. In my heart and mind I don't think my work is all that good, compared to works of others. To be fair - comparing my portfolio to portfolios of others, even within my age group - i suck. Whoever visits my site - I feel the need to warn them about how horrible it is, even if it really isn't. Feels like I don't want people to come to a realization that I suck. That everything that I spent countless days/months/years doing is worthless. I guess the reality of it is - I can sell it. And in the end, isn't that what matters? Can you live off of ur talentless ass. That brings me to another point. The power of bullshit and the power to bullshit should not be taken for granted. I think the main point of school in the US is to develop this ass-saving ability. All I remember about going to Suffolk is making up papers on "how do u feel about this and that", making up concepts and explanations. Making up stuff as I go along comes naturally to me. Maybe thats where my talent lies.
